About as complete a selection of fan and artist favourites as any single-disc Bruce collection could be, this is a surprisingly coherent listen given the many stylistic and attitudinal shifts it charts. The inclusion of only four of Born in the U.S.A. s obvious hits leaves space for less obvious choices like Atlantic City and four new cuts, among them songs recorded by a briefly reunited E Street Band. The pace lags a bit near the end--Secret Garden is turgid enough to take its place on a Sting album--but Greatest Hits earns its place in the CD player with stuff like Born to Run, The River and Dancing in the Dark. --Rickey Wright

The early tracks aren t there. - You can t go wrong with Bruce Springsteen s entire catalogue, and seeing as how most are on a very low price you could pick them at random and still have a lot of nice surprises (but maybe not the Lucky Town era). This compilation is an interesting mix of tracks, but it barely scratches the surface particularly of the pre Born In The USA time and centres too much on the ones since then. There s practically nothing from Greetings, The Wild, Nebraska and Darkness, the huge amount of live tracks are also overlooked, so I think this is aimed more at the very casual listener who isn t concerned what great album tracks they re missing. Sadly only Born In The USA and one track off Born To Run get all the attention on the radio, so I say to anyone you should buy any of the albums because they re all worth your time and worth a listen.

He s not called The Boss for nothing - A great, great CD - well worth its spot in your collection.I bought this album in 1997, I am writing a review now because I was linked to here when I was putting it onto my MP3 player. The reason I bought it was because of the song The River, song 4 on this CD. This song alone is worth the price, great lyrics:But I got Mary pregnant, and man, that was all she wrote,And for my nineteenth birthday, I got a union card and a wedding coatOther highlights include, Born to Run, Thunder Road, Badlands, My Hometown, Glory Days, Brilliant Disguise, Streets of Philadelphia, Secret Garden, Murder Incorporated.A fantastic album that you will return to again and again.

A cool rocking daddy indeed - There are some artists in this world who s reputation is so great and their status so legendary that, upon the mere mention of their name, you know they are someone worth listening to. Bob Dylan is one, David Bowie is certainly another and as for Bruce Springsteen, well, upon my hearing of this album just a couple of weeks ago I would not hesitate to add his name to that prestigious list. His songs are quite simply breathtaking. The stadium fillers such as Badlands, Dancing In The Dark and any track begining with the word Born, manage to incite impromptu lighter waving and/or punching the air, without treading the cheesier, much more cliche littered road of artists like Bon Jovi or Meat Loaf (as much as I love that big fat Texan!) As the balladeer, on tracks like The River, My Hometown and the brilliant Atlantic City, Springsteen really shows himself to be an acute songwriter and tender performer, not befitting the vest and jeans image of Born In The USA (the image I had of him before I actually listened to him).To those who have yet to hear any of what this man has to offer, buy this compilation now! It has got me addicted and already I m eyeing up that 30th Anniversary Edition Born To Run...

Brilliant!! - Amazing collection, and great introduction for anyone who only knows him for Born In The USA, it showcases a man filled with raw emotion, who wears his heart on his sleeve and gives everything he has to every song. Buy this album and introduce yourself or just remind yourself what a great artist he truly is and how beautiful his songs are.

Best Value - For a mere £10.99 at the moment, this cd contains 16 absolutely fantastic songs. Every single one is fabulous, the only short falling is that it doesn t have many from darkness on the edge of town - it is sadly missing both racing in the street and darkness on the edge of town itself. Despite this it is hard to find fault with the compilation - perhaps they could have included a couple of tracks from before born to run - but it has all of his greatest hits on there. Best song: Streets of Philadelphia (though with very stiff competition from the river and atlantic city)
